You don’t need to write code: tell Claude which TV you have and which apps you use, and let it guide you. This cleans up the home screen—not YouTube ads. Speed improvements depend on the model.
1. Check what you need
- Your own TV running Android TV or Google TV. Find its system and exact model in Settings → About.
- A computer with Claude Desktop and a plan that includes Claude Code.
- Both on the same Wi-Fi, with the TV on and its remote nearby.
Changing the prompt won’t make every TV compatible: this walkthrough is not for Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Roku, VIDAA, or Fire TV.
2. Open Claude Code
In the Claude app, choose Code. Select Local (your computer), choose Open folder, and create an empty folder called My TV. Use Manual mode so you can approve actions before they run.
You don’t need to open a terminal. A regular Claude chat or a cloud session can’t connect to your TV over home Wi-Fi.
Watch the official Claude Code demo.
3. Paste this message
Change only the brand and exact model and the apps you want to keep. Leave the rest as it is.

My TV: [BRAND AND EXACT MODEL]
My apps: [NETFLIX, YOUTUBE, AND THE APPS YOU WANT TO KEEP]
Download https://github.com/Gathin23/cleanyourtv into this folder and read README.md and PROMPT.md.
First check that my model is compatible; if not, stop. Use plain language and give me one action per message, including what to select on the TV to connect it.
Before installing tools, connecting, or changing anything, explain the plan and wait for my approval. Make a backup and save recovery instructions. Use the project’s safeguards: no root, no package uninstalling, and no bypassing restrictions.
Keep my apps, remote, HDMI, updates, voice controls, and Chromecast. Tell me before making any trade-offs.
At the end, help me test it, turn off all debugging, and revoke connection permissions.4. Follow along and test your TV
Claude will tell you which settings to enable for your model. On the TV, accept only your computer’s connection, and approve only changes you understand.
When it finishes, test the remote, Home, Settings, HDMI, and your apps. Ask Claude to help you turn off debugging and revoke access, then check again after a restart.
Keep the My TV folder and recovery instructions. If you want the original home screen back, ask Claude to restore it from that backup.
